Dubai, the world’s most-visited tourist destination, has become the first city in the world to open its bars and liquor stores.
Dubai’s newest store opened on Friday, adding to the thousands of liquor stores already in operation around the city.
It is one of three new liquor stores opening in Dubai this year.
More than 100 shops have already opened around the world in the past two years, according to the World Liquor Council.
The opening of the Dubai Liquor store marks the biggest expansion of a retail space in the city’s history, with an aim to make the city a hub of the world economy.
“We believe that we are going to transform the way that people consume alcohol,” said the Dubai Mayor, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
There are more than 200 liquor stores in the UAE, but only a handful of them are in the US, Canada, Australia and Europe.
Dubai is one the fastest growing cities in the Middle East, with more than 1 million people living in the country, according the United Nations.
In recent years, Dubai has been one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region.
The city is a financial hub for many of the Middle Eastern nations, with a population of nearly 30 million people.
Dubais tourism is one in a series of regional economic growth opportunities, including a major investment by Dubai Ports.
